Synthwave is a niche music genre that refeers particularly to the 80s action and science fiction movies, in particular movies like Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China, Robocop, Escape from New York, the Terminator series and in general a big influence on the genre has been John Carpenter works.


More recent movies that have been inspired by this 1980s nostalgic trend are Stranger Things and Drive. The Hotline Miami series was another video game, this time crafted in classic Nintendo / SEGA pixel art style, that was well appreciated by gamers around the world both for the action packed gameplay, great retro soundtrack, and beautiful synthwave aesthetics. More recent notable games are Neon Drive, Katana Zero, and Streets of Rage 4, which received high praises from critics and public.
